Job Description

The University of Iowa Department of Athletics seeks applications for an Assistant Director of Trademark and Licensing & Hall of Fame to assist in the management of the UI Trademark Licensing Program (UITLP) and the overall operations within the Iowa Athletics Hall of Fame (UIAHOF). This is a full-time (probationary and FLSA-exempt) position which includes full University benefits. The University of Iowa is an NCAA Division I institution and a member of the Big Ten Conference. The Department of Athletics manages 22 varsity sports programs and related events with a workforce of approximately 250 regular employees and 300 temporary employees. Responsibilities: This position will assist with University of Iowa Trademark Licensing Program (UITLP) functions which include daily business-to-business interactions with UI licensees, retailers and UI departments. UI Athletics Hall of Fame (UIAHOF) functions include daily interaction with patrons, tenants, donors, etc., completing administrative functions, hosting patrons and events. This position may be required to work evenings, weekends and holidays as needed.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Typically, 1-3 years of work experience with the collegiate trademark licensing industry;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Professional experience working effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills and ability to build trusting relationships;
  • Effectively use office support software (such as Microsoft Office Suite);
  • Ability to operate effectively within a highly regulated team environment.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Increasingly responsible experience (more than 3 years) working in a university trademark licensing program or administering collegiate licensing programs including the promotion, protection, and management of trademarks and knowledge of laws and regulations related to trademarking and licensing (highly desired);
  • Experience working with licensing software, such as Brand Comply or comparable licensing software (specify software used);
  • Proficient with trademark enforcement actions and software;
  • Experience collaborating with internal university academic/administrative units, and student organizations;
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate and execute social and/or business events, such as receptions, corporate meetings, etc.
