Job Description

The Athletics Director is responsible for the leadership, management, and growth of the Club’s athletic programs and facilities. This includes assessment, planning, organization, daily implementation, staff supervision, and program evaluation. The role ensures that youth have access to high-quality athletic opportunities that support physical fitness, teamwork, and positive youth development. This position is Monday - Friday, 32 hours per week and is a benefit-eligible position.

In This Role You Will

  • Plan, manage, and evaluate the overall athletic program.
  • Supervise the gymnasium and oversee all Union Street Clubhouse athletic programming, including daily program leadership.
  • Schedule gym use, coaches, athletic volunteers, officials, and transportation; maintain program records and statistics.
  • Foster a safe, inclusive, and positive environment that encourages youth participation and growth.
  • Provide guidance, mentorship, and support to members, including behavior redirection when necessary.
  • Serve as a positive role model, inspiring youth to reach their full potential.
  • Track and report on program outcomes, including member participation and fitness progress.
  • Promote and market athletic programs through schedules, announcements, fliers, media, and personal outreach.
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate athletic staff and volunteers.
  • Collaborate with the Union Street Clubhouse Assistant Director of Programs and Leadership on staffing and program development.
  • Uphold organizational policies and ensure staff accountability.
  • Manage program budgets, prepare annual budget requests, and support grant funding initiatives.
  • Participate in annual program evaluations and organizational retreats.
  • Support summer programming by serving as Athletic Program Director and group leader at Camp Foster.
  • Perform supervisory duties in compliance with organizational policies and applicable laws. Support broader Club operations and events as assigned.

In This Role You'll Have

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Recreation, or related field preferred.
  • 1–3 years’ experience in athletics, recreation, or youth programs (may substitute for degree).
  • Strong leadership and supervisory experience preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain and maintain).
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage budgets and program expenses.
  • Commitment to youth development, mentorship, and serving as a positive role model.
  • Flexible schedule, including evenings, school vacations, and summer camp. Ability to remain calm and professional in high-energy or stressful environments.

Physical Demands/Work Environment

  • Actively supervise and participate in recreational, athletic, and educational activities, both indoors and outdoors.
  • Stand, walk, run, and engage in physical play for extended periods of time.
  • Respond quickly and appropriately in emergencies, including the ability to move swiftly to ensure the safety of members.
  • Maintain energy and alertness throughout extended shifts, often in a loud or high-energy setting.
  • Work in various environments, including gymnasiums, and outdoor fields.
  • Lift and carry equipment or supplies up to 50–75 pounds.
  • Perform physical tasks including bending, kneeling, reaching, and climbing stairs.
  • Use standard office equipment including computers, phones, and copiers.
